Background jobs
Track background jobs
Some work keeps running after you start it, such as reading an uploaded document page by page, processing an import, receiving email or downloading data from a connected store. Background jobs lists that work, so you can see whether it finished and retry what failed.
Open background jobs
Open Configure, then Background jobs. The newest jobs come first, 50 per page; select Previous and Next to move between pages.
Each row shows the work, such as Document reading or Import processing, then its status, how many of its items succeeded, failed and are queued, and when it was created. The list updates every 15 seconds. Select Refresh background jobs, the refresh button at the top, to update it now.
See how much work your business uses
Above the list, a summary shows each kind of work your business used in the last 30 days: whether it is up to date, waiting or running now, how many items were done and failed, and how long they took. Model calls counts the AI model requests your business made in the same 30 days: Scout’s answers, reading documents and searching them.
How Biosphere runs background work
Biosphere runs every business’s background work in turn, so another business’s large download never holds back yours. Work someone is waiting for, such as reading a document or processing an import, goes first. Larger work, such as downloading a whole store, runs as capacity allows, and work that has waited moves up so it always finishes.
Document, email and store-download progress in Inbox and Sources links straight to the job behind it.
Understand a job’s status
- queued: waiting to start.
- running: in progress.
- completed: finished.
- partial_failed: some items failed. You can retry them.
- cancelled: stopped before it finished.
See a job’s details
Select a job to open its details on the right:
- When it was created, started and completed, and its Actor: user when a person started it, system when Biosphere did.
- Its items, each with its status, attempts, such as “1 of 3”, and any error.
- Job event history, the steps the job went through.
Select Refresh details to update the details, or Expand to full page to open the job on its own page.
Retry failed items
- Open a job whose status is partial_failed.
- Select the Retry failed only button.
Biosphere queues again only the failed items that have attempts left. Items that already succeeded are not repeated. A message says how many items were queued. If the same retry is sent twice, Biosphere says the earlier retry was already accepted rather than queueing the work again.
What to know
- Background jobs appears in Configure for every business.
- A job shows the work Biosphere did. The changes that work made to your records appear in each record’s Activity and in the audit log.
- If an item keeps failing after its last attempt, ask Biosphere support. See Get help.
When there is enough history, each kind of work shows how long it usually waits before starting.
